The HCPRA Executive 

Thank you to the 2014/2015 Executive for steering our plan to integrate with CPRS. These Executive members continue to be involved in the transition and will be supporting various CPRS initiatives.

Judy Brown, HCPRA President
Judy is Director of Communications & Cultural Competency at Queensway Carleton Hospital in Ottawa. Prior to this position, Judy worked as a Communications Consultant at the Canadian Institute for Health Information. She was Public Affairs Officer at The Ottawa Civic Hospital for 11 years before becoming Director of Public Affairs and Media Relations when the hospital merged with two others to become The Ottawa Hospital. Judy is actively involved in several professional associations and has served as President of HCPRA and Provincial Chair of the Ontario Hospital Association Community Affairs & Communications Network.

Stephanie Girard, Vice President, Membership Services
Stephanie spent more than 20 years in the media industry. She has worked at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Radio-Canada, as a producer, news anchor and bilingual reporter in Regina, Ottawa and Windsor from 1993-2011. Stephanie is Director, Marketing, Communications and Community Engagement at Bruyere Continuing Care. She has extensive experience in crisis communications through traditional and social media. She has a degree in communications and 2 MBA degrees from Cornell-Queen’s universities.

Suzanne Legue, Vice President, Professional Development
Suzanne has devoted the past 30 years to communications in Simcoe Muskoka, working on the front-lines of media, public relations, government relations and fundraising. She is currently the Chief Communications Officer at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie. Before joining the RVH team, Legue spent over 15 years working as an award-winning journalist at Barrie’s CKVR Television (currently CTV). Suzanne’s communications achievements have been recognized by the Health Care Public Relations Association, Greater Barrie Chamber of Commerce, Can-Pro, and the Radio and Television News Directors’ Association. Most recently, she was awarded a Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee medal for her contribution to her community.

Wendy Walters, Vice President, Recognition
Wendy is a Public Relations Advisor at IWK Health Centre in Halifax. Previously, she was Acting Director of Public Relations at Annapolis Valley Health in Kentville, Nova Scotia.

Tamara Vineberg, Member-at-Large
Tamara is the Communications Specialist at the Edmonton Southside Primary Care Network in Edmonton. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Communications Studies and a diploma in Public Relations. She was a journalist for 14 years before transferring to PR seven years ago.

Bärbel Hatje, Member-at-Large
Bärbel is a communications consultant with London Health Sciences Centre. She provides strategic planning, issues management and media relations expertise to corporate leaders. Prior to joining the hospital, Bärbel worked as an editor and journalist at several daily newspapers in Northern and Southern Ontario.

Jane Adams, National Coordinator
Jane is the President of Brainstorm Communications + Creations. Brainstorm offers communications counsel, from writing to media relations, and from special events to publications. Working with local graphics companies, Brainstorm can provide support from initial concept to final design. Prior to creating Brainstorm, Jane was the Director of Public Relations and Fundraising at The Salvation Army Grace Hospital in Ottawa for seven years, and in Winnipeg for four years before that. She has also held communications positions in Regina and in two Toronto hospitals. Jane received her accredited status with the Canadian Public Relations Society in 1998.

Thanks to Laurie Dawkins at Vancouver Coastal Health for kicking off our CPRS Health Care Academy webinar series with a presentation on engaging middle managers.
